Equity backs Sport Relief

04 Mar 2010

Equity Direct Broking’s call centre has been chosen to take the thousands of telephone donations expected from people all over the country supporting the Sport Relief TV extravaganza on March 19.

Staff at its Colchester facility are volunteering to answer calls and register donations, helping to raise more than £28 million for the charity which provides aid to disadvantaged people all over the world.

More than 100 volunteers will be entertained and motivated by TV darts legend, Bobby ‘the king of bling’ George and Colchester MP, Bob Russell, who will be visiting the call centre to lend their support during the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Equity’s Jane Barber has been training volunteers to answer telephone calls which are expected to come in at a rate of three every second.

She says: “It promises to be a brilliant night, and the best bit is all the money raised will be spent by Sport Relief to help people living unimaginably tough lives. Call centres like ours at Colchester are absolutely vital to Sport Relief; helping to raise funds for the projects it supports both here in the UK and internationally.”
